Add-on scenery

This page details other add-on scenery which is known to be compatible with the VFR Photographic Scenery.

In most cases, this will be because the author/designer has accurately positioned the scenery with the photographic scenery in mind, rather than the default FS2002 scenery which is known to be inaccurate. It should usually mean that the textures used have been chosen to blend well with the photographic scenery so that the two sceneries appear to work naturally together.

Nick Ryall South West England will be available soon via the Visual Flight web site.  You can read more about it here.

Airport Scenery

UK2000 Airport Scenery

http://www.uk2000scenery.com

Gary Summons of UK2000 Scenery has said that all UK2000 Scenery will be made compatible with VFR Photographic Scenery, and beta testers have found very few problems so far.

You can find more information about this, including screenshots showing UK2000 Scenery being used in conjunction with VFR Photographic Scenery at various airports.

UK2000 Scenery mainly covers airports in the Southern half of England and the Midlands, but also includes Manchester Airport.

Autogen scenery

Heathrow Autogen Scenery

FS2002 includes Autogen scenery for the area around Heathrow, but this is needs to be re-enabled after installation of the VFR Photogaphic Scenery volume 1.

Here's the instructions for re-enabling the Heathrow Autogen scenery. These should be carried out by someone confident in copying files in Windows. If you haven't installed all the UK scenery to hard disk when installing FS2002 you will not be able to use these instructions.

Brief Instructions
  1. Copy * .agn from <FS2002>\SCENEDB\Cities\heathrow\Texture to
    VFGM_PhotoScenery_Vol1_3\texture.
  2. Restart FS2002.
Detailed Instructions

Note 1: Some versions of Windows use "Find" instead of "Search".  Please replace "Search" with "Find" in the instructions where appropriate.

  1. Exit FS2002 if it is running.
  2. Locate the folder where FS2002 is installed. By default this is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FS2002 .  We will refer to this folder as <FS2002> in the instructions below.
  3. Locate the folder <FS2002>\SCENEDB\Cities\heathrow\Texture.
  4. Right-click the folder, and choose Search... from the pop-up mouse menu.
  5. In the "Search for files or folders named:" box, enter *.agn
  6. Click Search Now
  7. When the search has finished, choose Edit, Select All from the Search Results menu. You should now see 24 files/objects highlighted in the Search Results window.
  8. From the Search Results menu, choose Edit, Copy.
  9. Close the Search window, then locate the folder <FS2002>\SCENEDB\JFVFR1\VFGM_PhotoScenery_Vol1_3\texture. (If you installed the scenery to a different location, you will need to find the JFVFR1\VFGM_PhotoScenery_Vol1_3 folder at your chosen location).
  10. Right click on the folder and choose Paste from pop-up mouse menu.
  11. When the Confirm File Replace dialog window opens asking if you wish to replace file 010331331231112an.agn with 010331331231112an.agn (or similar), click Yes to All.
  12. This will copy the Autogen files into the photographic scenery textures folder, and when finished the autogen will be enabled on the corresponding photographic textures.
  13. Exit the Search window, restart FS2002 and make sure Autogen is enabled in Display Settings.
Checking the installation

If you have installed the Heathrow autogen files, the way to check if they're installed is to Pause on the approach to Heathrow R27L. Compare the area in the vicinity of the airport boundary with the Autogen slider in Display Settings first set to Min and then to Max.  You should see extra trees and buildings more or less aligned with the roads, and other features in the photographic scenery.

Note: If you choose to uninstall the photographic scenery after carrying out this procedure, the VFGM_PhotoScenery_Vol1_3 texture folder and the Autogen files within it will be left behind after the uninstallation has completed.  You can remove the folder manually after uninstallation if required.

Disclaimer: This procedure is optional, and no support will be given for issues arising from the use of these instructions. NO liability, express or implied will be accepted through their use.

Third-party Autogen Scenery

We are not yet aware of any third-party Autogen scenery specifically designed to work with VFR Photographic Scenery. For more information about Autogen scenery in relation to photographic scenery, please check the Autogen section of FAQ 2.
