Hi

Just got FS9 running again after main hard drive failure prior to Xmas and have managed to recover most of my files including FS2004 from the defunct drive and using a backup I'd made some years ago. Photographic scenery is ok and the majority of my autogen is there but when I went to Lundy Island from Chivenor, the Island is totally flat except for the private airstrip!

I've re-loaded all my mesh files including FS Genesis but Lundy remains flat

Any ideas anyone

Nigel

Which version of Genesis mesh are you using. If the Next map version there is an update to the UK SW that corrects this.

I'm using FS Genesis Europe & Africa V 1.01 and FS Genesis World Buffer Terrain V 1.0

The latest so far:-
I've un-installed both sets of FS Genesis mesh and terrain in turn and Lundy Island is still the same! Flat as a witches t*t!!
So I don't think its anything to do with FS Genesis products, more likely the VFR Terrain by Horizon playing up. I tried sending a image via ImageShack but no joy with either

I don't think you will find an FS9 mesh containing Lundy.

The only one I know is for FSX.

I definitely have (or had, since that machine is in pieces at the moment) Lundy with mesh in my VFR all-in-one install. There may even be some pics of it here, showing Intrepid Granpa in an Antoinette.
Actually came here to find some very old topics about Lydd not showing up....

I agree MikeW, before my hard drive failure I also had Lundy showing up with VFR all-in-one installed. In the VFR Terrain forum there is also a map by Visual Flight showing the ares of UK covered by their terrain and mesh including Lundy.

RE-installing everything has not cured the problem and I cannot locate this update UK SW by FS Genisis on the web!

The only lesson to be learnt from all of this , is to back everything up before switching computer off on to an external hard drive.

Nigel -
Digging deep in the memory bank for things which have brought me and others undone...
The early VFR Photoscenery included mesh files which are not needed if you have VFR Terrain. I think they have names like Vol1_2_Scenery_Mesh. Disable them or remove them because they do clash with VFR Terrain.

The relative position of the components of VFR Terrain is critical. Again, from memory, the LWM needs to be nearest the bottom of the screen when you view the scenery library. If your Steep Holm and Flat Holm are also without mesh, I would look at the layering first.
The position of Nick's NOK Coastlines is also relevant.

Shep's Guide to All-in-One includes a couple of tricks, for getting rid of Ye Old Grey Tile of Cheltenham and replacing one of the scenery bgls covering the Severn Estuary with an older version.

I know the search facility is not the best these days, but I have found that when 'server timeout has been applied' comes up, refreshing the page will nearly always bring up your search results.

I will have a look and see if I can discover my posts covering these subjects. I know just about everything was covered somewhere, but I would rather suggest where to look yourself, than risk misleading you by relying on my memory, with no other reference to confirm it
I should have some pointers by tomorrow afternoon (Sat 4th, Oz Time)

Thanks for the response and advice. I have disabled the four VFR Photoscenery Mesh files in my scenery.cfg and gave it a test flight but Lundy is now 3/4 flat i.e it has a ridge down the west side of the island!

I did an extensive trawl thro' the forum files and altered a few things in my terrain.cfg file, such as offset=0 or whatever instead of offset=- and made sure MaskClassMap=0 and not 1 or 3. The VFR terrain components are in the correct order within my scenery.cfg file with VFRTerrainLC lowest followed by VTP,DTM and LWM highest or Area 48 to 51.

My scenery.cfg layering is roughly this:-

Scotflight
NokFreewareCoastlines1
UKVFR Library
IFSD Scenery
FSAddon sceneries such as bridges, cities, landmarks, trees and buildings
Addon scenery layers such as oil rigs, airfields and British Airports
VisualFlight London, MAIW, Rwy12, EZ Scenery
JVFR AIO
RREurope
Landclass layers
FlightParis Mesh
VFGM_PhotoScenery_Vol 1 to 4_Mesh
Addon Scenery
Static object libraries
Propeller Objects
Vehicle Libraries
Generic Libraries
Aerial Photo layers
default regional layers (Oceania to Africa)
Default Scenery
Default Terrain(FS Genesis mesh)

Did another flight test from RAF Chivenor (my old stamping ground from RAF days) but Lundy is still the same. My All-in one folder resides on another drive and as of yet I have'nt found any other anomallies elsewhwere.

Regards
Nigel

Hi nigel - the best laid plans...
I tried my neat trick in the forum search and it wouldn't play nicely. So I read through "all non-archived posts by emfrat" and of course most of what I was looking for was on the 33rd and last page!
There is an old landclass improvement for Ireland which can cause problems off-shore. See this post:
http://www.visualflight.co.uk/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4516

Layering info, and ref to Bones' Isle of Man scenery:
http://www.visualflight.co.uk/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7061

More layering and All-in-one info:
http://www.visualflight.co.uk/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8353

Hope this helps

Problem sorted Mike thanks for your threads!I spent yesterday trawling thro' all the various posts linked to those threads and also the VFR Terrain forum. I noticed IFDS Irish scenery popped up a few times with its attendant confliction with VFR Terrain so I un-nstalled/deleted those files. Someone suggested putting FS Genesis into a seperate folder instead of World/Scenery so I did that and layered it above the VFR mesh. I also found corrupted Roads and Rivers of Europe files inside EURW scenery folder eg. HP946120.rre, so I deleted and un-installed RRE, did a test flight and joy oh joy, Lundy back to normal!!

I then altered my layering in scenery.cfg following your thread adviced but have'nt noticed any difference as of yet, a good flight around Blighty might be order.

I see that Horizon VFR Photographic Scenery Vol 9 & 10 now cover Ireland (except Northern Ireland) so will go down that route. Again thanks for giving me the pointers, much appreciated.

Regards

Nigel
