Dear All
I have been busy attempting to compile a usable but simple flight guide for UKVFR Scenery Farm strips - for quite a while. For use whilst flying
It would consist of a screen shot of each strip from above and some notes plus info about any scenery and who made it etc (Often incl differing versions available)
I am hoping this might be of some use to others when finished.
It has involved, for instance, creating AFCADS for those strips that have not been created by any scenery designers so far. This is so I could use the strips in fs flight plans and ATC I have even added some scenery to some.
Although a lot of these have been just a simple place maker AFCAD - This has proven to be a gigantic task!
Some of them I have had to really search the VFR Scenery to find the correct Coordinates - and would have been lost without the VFR Scenery (Thanks John),not to mention the correct names and varying spellings as well as duplicate ICAO usage I have come across!
Along the way I have discovered some strange anomalies, interesting and challenging airstips and fascinating scenery.

The first practical thing I hope to make available is a flight plan that visits all Airstrips and thus supplies the correct positions in one fell swoop. In fact this is how I have discovered a lot of the duplicate airstips with differing names or repeated code usage.

The next maybe an fs start position flight at each airstrip.

Alan,

I have compiled an Excel spreadsheet which has data for Gerry Winskill's FSX strips, and I have also created AFCADs for these where required. If you are interested we could compare notes.

I think Gerry used a published guide when creating his strips, (? was it Lockyers?), I guess that would be useful to you.

Hi Alan,

I don't use FS9 any more, so I guess we are limited as to what we can share.

Dear Frank

I do have fsx but as yet have not purchased any photo scenery.
I shall purchase this soon - but this wont affect what I am trying to do ie the fs flight guide - which is going to take some time.

You will need Gerry Winskill's FSX versions, he's replaced the old trees with FSX autogen trees, and updated some of the scenery objects.

I'm sure that I'm still seeing the old trees Frank, and not the fsx autogen variety.

I see trees on white tiles that obscure anything behind them.

Can you point me in the direction of a fix?

Dennis.

There isn't a fix, Dennis, and you are right, the trees are still FS9. The only fix I know of is to delete the BGLs.

Hi Dennis,

I have a problem updating you on this. Gerry Winskill and I are members of a VA on IVAO, and he let fellow members share some updates that he didn't release to the FS community, because he got fed up with answering support questions from those who didn't really understand FS scenery installation to start with.......

As I recall, what he did was to remove the trees from the scenery folders, and provide AGN files for each locality, which (a) improved the cosmetics, and (b) appeared to help with the display rate. What I can't remember is whether he released these improvements to the general FS community or not, sorry.

Can I suggest you e-mail him directly with your request, I'm assuming his address would be in the readme files.

Frank.

Perhaps if I e-mailed Gerry and mentioned that I spent my honeymoon in the I.O.M, it would help my case?

1960. John Surtees and John Hartle on the MV's. When on full chat, a sound to equal that of a Merlin.

I forgot to mention to my beloved, that it was T.T week.
