Finding Topic Numbers

Where do I find the topic number for a posting on the forums? I can find it by selecting 'Send Topic to a friend' and noting the Topic number, but is there a better way of finding the number?
Is it possible, knowing only the Topic number, to search the forums for that particular posting?

Hi -
I find it easiest to just copy/paste the URL from the address bar near the top of the screen.
I did once try searching using using the TOPIC_ID=nnnn string, but without getting any results. I expect this is because that is purely an internal reference, and not part of the content of the post it refers to.

Thanks for the info'. Looks like searching using the topic number ONLY is a non starter.
