ZIP files for Thirlmere race course scenery are here:
* VFR Aero GP
As well as the files, there's a link to an FAQ on installing scenery in case anyone needs it. Get practicing!
NB. I've renamed Ninja's files to ThirlmereScenery.zip and ThirlmereTextures.zip just in case anyone has received them direct and is wondering. The contents are the same.

Hi All
We should perhapse do several races in several types??.....and I also think we should set the weather for "sunny" so that we're evenly matched...and can see where we're going......lol
1. All Comers Race. Whatever you think is going to get you around the quickiest.......this race will be a pants on fire, close to the edge type race...where just getting around will be an achievment.
2. Beech Baron Race: I've just done a lap in the Baron, and it is an ideal intermediate aircraft, very stable. This race will be more tactical, in that finding the "racing line" will be crucial for victory......as we'll all be evenly matched.....
3. I've had a thought about doing a helicopter race.......I'm just going to try it in the Bell, and see how it feels.........
What say you??? |

Helicopter kind of sucks.....too slow....but then it might be more fun with 4 more players all struggling to maintin speed.....
As for planes for the All-Comers-Race, I've managed to get round in the AlphaSim A-10 (The Freeware Download One), managed a 3 minute lap first time round......so hopefully will be able to trim a few seconds off....though I've got to use airbrakes in the corners..which is fun..... |

Just so you know what you're aiming at:
I'm using a stop-watch, and from the moment the wheels begin to roll, until they stop again...my best time is 2mins 58secs........this is going counter-clockwise around the course. |

Hi Carl,
been having a fly around the course and its great fun been using the real air spitfire "race 74" model..if i could stop the thing in under 25 seconds i will post a decent time no air brakes
if this takes off it could be a riot different classes, different courses..we could have a championship season
no idea on servers etc..been away for a while |

Hi Ninja,
Had several goes at the circuit both directions in different aircraft. Best time 2 mins in a A10, but shan't use it tomorrow; got thoroughly fed up with that damn female telling me to "Pull up" all the time.
Great fun thought, thoroughly enjoyed it.

TWO MINUTES Norman? Now you've given me an inferiority complex. Best I could do in the RA Spitfire was 2:45, and I was flat out most of the time. Two minutes? Wow! Give him the money Barney. |

No, I did say the A10!!!! It took me 2mins 55 secs in the RA Spitfire. You can go faster in the A10 because it accelerates so well in the straigth sections, and is so manouverable that you take the tightest turn, at the top of the pass, nearly inverted.

I'll bite the bullet and say lets meet after the German GP......we should be very calm and docile after the F1 GP.......sleepy even......lol.
Say about 15:00????
...or lets go for an evening meet at say 19-20:00.......? |

A few of us had a good session this morning. Flying real weather with a 14 knot cross wind at the end of the lake was a real challenge, and does anyone know how to make the Spit engine last for more than one circuit?
Will try to join you at 1900 tonight.
Norman
Edit: The Shetland Flyer gets very busy Sundy evenings, so there may be a problem if a number of people turn up. It will be a good idea to have an alternative in mind. |
