[UPDATE: This post applies equally to FS2004 and FS2004 - John]

It looks as if the missing tile in Cheltenham is being generated by an out-of-place request by a scenery control file covering a completely different scenery area, namely Volume 2 South. The only explanation I can think of for this strange behaviour is that it's a bug in FS2002, but there's probably no way of confirming this.

Fix

The good news is that there's an easy work-around. If you have the missing tile, simply switch the priority order Vol 2 Centre and Vol 2 South in Scenery Library. If you don't have the missing tile in the first place, don't change the scenery library order or you're likely to introduce the problem.

Detailed instructions
  • From the FS2002 menu, choose World, Scenery Library... (If you're in the startup screen, choose SETTINGS, Scenery Library...)
  • Click on the scenery area named "VFGM PhotoScenery Vol2 Centre".
Use the Move Up or Move Down buttons to get it to change places with "VFGM PhotoScenery Vol2 South".
  • Click OK.
If you have any difficulties with these instructions or the fix doesn't appear to work, please let me know.

Note: The texture files concerned are perfectly OK if you examine them in a suitable graphics program. The problem arises in FS itself when displaying them.

Edit: I've updated the original post to refer to FS2004 and added a note about the textures.

Hope you don't mind me mentioning this John but another 'fix' is available at Just Flight but it 'jiggers-up' the autogen on the tile involved - see - http://vfraddons.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=337
