You know the problem: you're using Map View in FS2002 and you want to position your aircraft close to an airport, but when you let go of the mouse it dumps you on the nearest runway.

The solution:

Turn off airports in the display by clicking the airport icon in Map View and you can position your aircraft where you like without any danger of FS2002 dumping you on a runway.
