I'm very pleased to announce that I've made a special arrangement with Horizon Simulation, publisher of VFR Generation X, for Visual Flight forum members and customers to be able to pre-order VFR Generation X via the Visual Flight web site:

http://www.visualflight.info/products/vfr-generation-x

I would appreciate it if anyone who is planning on ordering this scenery could do so via the Visual Flight pre-order page. This will not only allow Horizon Simulation to give a little back to the creator of the original 'classic' VFR Photographic Scenery (something they're very happy to do), but it will also help maintain the Visual Flight Forums as the 'spiritual home' of VFR Photographic Scenery.

For those who are not yet aware of what this scenery is capable of, check out the demo version on the cover CD of this month's PC Pilot magazine or take a look at some of the comments in the forums. Personally, I'm convinced that this product has the edge in ways which will become perhaps clearer over the coming days and weeks.

In the meantime, to get an idea what all the excitement is about, take a look at this set of forum posts:

John

a quick 'heads up' : the page at http://visualflight.info/products/vfr-generation-x says "Note: Prices do not include shipping or VAT". That nearly caused me to head off to a competitor (mentioning no names but I'd have paid in euro) until I just tested the water through Horizon's order system, only to find I didn't need to add VAT on after all. Once that was considered there was hardly any difference in price so I went with Horizon via your link, but you might want to amend the page.

Rod

There was a major problem with the Tyne which had a water level about 20' too high and appeared to run on its own platform above ground level (on my FSX installation anyway). My Tyne bridge models (which use the water level as a datum) didn't meet the ground at the ends. I would imagine that the same effect occurred in other places as well.

On my system at least this has been fixed by the coastlines patch so the Tyne no longer towers over its banks, and the bridges once again fit the landscape.

Hi Monir,

Sorry old chap but I am afraid the problem here is not with Generation X or even FSX. It is simply that UK Farmstripsis not entirely compatible with the Generation X mesh. Gerry himself acknowledges this by describing the addon as a "workaround" rather than being fully compatible.
You misquote me when you say,
"In your own words in the farm strips thread you are appealing for a solution to the blurry and troughy terrain at lower hights and ground levels when VFR Generation X is used."
None of those words is mine, I was simply asking if anyone could find a way to make the scenery usable in Generation X ie. to enable aircraft to tax, take of and land. Perhaps I did not make this completely clear.
Fortunately I now have the solution.
Your point about rivers and estuaries escapes me. I am not aware of any problem in the River Tyne and the only oddity in Plymouth harbour as far as I know is the Great Mew Stone, an island that appears in the mesh but is covered in water texture. I have asked Horizon to have a look at this and feelsure that when they have time they will.

Hi Rod

Few people without mentionning name concured with Gerry's own experience mentioned in his new UK fARM STRIPS FOR fsx.

THE FARM STRIPS IN fsx WITH THE old GENERATION vfr AND ITS MESH RESOLUTION OF 19M AND TEXTURE RESOLUTION OF 5M,is really something to see and experience at low hights and at smooth ground level terrain.

In your own words in the farm strips thread you are appealing for a solution to the blurry and troughy terrain at lower hights and ground levels when VFR Generation X is used.

I personnaly think that those troughy terain as well as the uneven level of water in some rivers, estuaries and harbours as in the Tyne river and Plymouth harbour etc etc ,are due to a bug in FSX itself which needs addressing soon by a patch from Microsoft.

Couple of screenshots of those magnificent GERRY'S FARM STRIPS,IN fsx AND OLD vfr .

Hi Monir,

Sorry to hear that you are having problems with your Generation X order, I am sure that you will have delivery soon.

You wrote;

the terrain levels at lower hights or ground levels is still not solved in VFR Generation X scenery.

could you explain what you mean here, I am not getting the point you are trying to make.

Rod.

Hi John

Still no confirmation or denial about my order by Horizon Simulation and no delivery so far.

If the order did not succeed I will be happy to delay taking further action for a while as the terrain levels at lower hights or ground levels is still not solved in VFR Generation X scenery.

regards

Monir
